Api 1990

During September 1990 a seven strong team visited the Park and explored and surveyed 6.5km of cave passages in Racer and Clearwater caves.

Racer Cave was extended to a total length of 4.4km unfortunately the hoped for connections with Cave of the Winds and Lagans Cave were not found although they were tantalisingly close.

An attempt was made to connect Drunken Forest Cave with the Clearwater 5 streamway discovered during 1989. Although a physical connection was established it was too small to be passable. In the Clearwater 5 area 1.3km of passages were explored and surveyed. This led to the inevitable upstream sump. Although a bypass to the sump was located this was not fully explored due to heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding.

The expedition extended the total length of the Clearwater System to 78km.
